Heidelberg Catechism, Question #1

I told my mom about a year or so ago that I would post the first question to the Heidelberg Catechism on my blog. Our family has memorized it and it is such a wonderfully encouraging reminder to repeat out loud each day.

Often at breakfast Peter asks us:

Q: 1. What is thy only comfort in life and death?

And we respond:

A: That I with body and soul, both in life and death, am not my own, but belong unto my faithful Savior Jesus Christ; who, with his precious blood, has fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father, not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must be subservient to my salvation, and therefore, by his Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto him.

Every day I need reminded of these things. I'm thankful for catechisms that concisely state what I believe and make it easy for me to repeat back to myself the doctrine that is life to me.

A big Amen. Thanks for posting this Julie and for sharing your application. So often application is the missing piece to really bring Christ fully present into our daily lives.

May your day be blessed,
Kathy
